The Cedar House was conceived as a home that balances privacy, warmth, and universal livability. Inspired by the enduring character of historic New England structures, the design presents a restrained exterior to the street while unfolding into light-filled living spaces that connect seamlessly to the landscape beyond.

Carefully crafted plaster walls, natural materials, and thoughtful proportions create a sense of permanence and comfort. Every aspect of the home was designed to support graceful living for years to come, incorporating principles of universal design without sacrificing beauty, character, or architectural integrity.

The result is a residence that feels both timeless and contemporary—rooted in tradition while fully responsive to modern life.

Design Challenge

The owners sought a home that offered privacy from the street while maintaining an open, light-filled connection to the landscape. Nautilus Architects responded with a design inspired by traditional masonry structures, utilizing substantial wall forms and carefully placed openings to create a sense of refuge.

Once inside, the experience shifts dramatically. Expansive glazing, flowing spaces, and carefully curated views connect the home to its surroundings while preserving privacy where it matters most.
